Are you a new student relocating to Dresden—your new home far away from home? Don’t worry, our Student Welcome Initiative, active since 2017, is here to make your journey smoother and your arrival less overwhelming. We are a team of dedicated student volunteers who genuinely understand the excitement and challenges of moving to a new country because we’ve been through it ourselves. That’s why we are here to support you with all your pre-departure and post-arrival questions.
From pre-arrival support to help you feel prepared and confident, to arrival assistance to welcome you warmly and help you settle in, and post-arrival guidance to help you adapt and thrive in your new environment—we are with you every step of the way. Whether you need advice about life in Dresden, blocked accounts, visas, travel tips, or help with city registration, our team is here to help. We also organize career events, including CV and cover letter workshops tailored to the German job market, along with industrial visits to help you build your future.
This initiative is fully run by the Student Advisory Council (SAC) members of the Indian Association Dresden (IAD), who are all current students at various universities in Dresden. Everything we do is on a volunteer basis—by students, for students—with no financial compensation involved. Our motivation comes from the simple desire to help new students feel at home and supported, just as someone once helped us. Since 2017, we have supported over 800 students from 11 different countries, and along the way, our work has been recognized through awards such as the Sarojini Naidu Leibniz Award and the TU Dresden Internationalization Award.
